Ilocos: The Tour (Sixth Part)

After Vigan, we headed to Baluarte. Baluarte is a zoological theme park whose main feature is that it allows close interaction between visitors and animals. It is owned by Chavit Singson. Entrance is free. There as an afternoon show every 5PM featuring the trained animals of the zoo.

I also met a true blooded writer in Baluarte. Please visit her blog here.

So here’s the delayed post on Baluarte. Enjoy the pictures!

This is a blue-gold macaw…

A blue naped parrot…

These are sun conures. I like the way one of them stared into the camera. He seemed to have posed for the shot…

An umbrella cuckatoo…

Miniature horses…

Feeding time… Find the feeder…

An alpaca…

White deers. The first one was a bit sleepy…

A goose and a duck… The goose stared at me for a minute or so, and so despite the distance, I took a shot. This is the nearest that my zoom lens could get.

The animal that I really sought to shot… An enclosed one got excited when he saw me approached his pen… He probably saw me as his meal… :D This one has a mild temperament and was very obedient to trainers. He just came from their afternoon show and I met him along the way to his cage…

To be continued… Next post will be about Laoag and La Paz Sand Dunes…

In case you want to have a tour of Ilocos, and you’ll be staying in Laoag, you may get in touch with Mang Lito, the man who offered to tour us around. His service is significantly low compared to arranged tours or packaged tours being offered by the hotels in Laoag. He may be contacted through his mobile phone: 09273387969.
I will not promote the hotel we stayed in. Although they had reasonably low room rates, good food and courteous staff, their water supply is not good – it’s yellow. Their room rates are also a bit tricky, as this caused a slight argument when we checked out

what a beautiful shot of the tiger Mark, it is my wish also to get a shot as close as that, but never have been lucky in our park they were always too far from me :(

I was lucky with those shots Miss Beth, after a horrifying experience with another tiger who seemed bent to have me for dinner… Will blog about it soon… :D I was able to meet the group who had this afternoon show and I requested the trainers to allow me to take close-ups of this tiger… I used the full zoom of my 300mm lens there… I was not that close enough… Hehehe…

    Festive and pastoral Kapatid…

Salamat kapatid… It’s a humbling experience to be this close to these wonders… “How lovely is Your dwelling place…”

nice shots! a close-up take of the tiger is also my favorite subject. indi man ta makapapicture tupad sa iya mo. haha!

Hehehe… This tiger is tamed and well trained. In fact a trainer hit this tiger on the head when it kept on moving and after I complained that it’s hard to take a shot with all its movements… :D But I was afraid to approach it with the horrifying experience from another one… :D Will tell you soon… :D

That alpaca is the most ridiculous animal I’ve seen in a long time. I love it. I also like the depth of field in the picture of the goose. It actually worked out really well that he was so far away. The pictures of the tiger are really beautiful… they are all really beautiful. It sounds like a great place to visit, and you can’t beat free!

Thanks Ben… It was my first time to see an alpaca… :D Indeed, you can’t beat free… :D Haha!

Thanks Dong… Yes, Baluarte is worth visiting. Aside from the beautiful animals, there is no entrance fee… :D

The deer pictures reminded me of the deer walking around the big park in Nara, one of my favorite cities in Japan. If you have food, they’d follow you. If you don’t, the won’t. Until now, I wonder how come they know if a tourist has food or not. Haha :)

Nice pics Mark. I’m sorry for not being able to visit your blogs as often as I want to.

I think that deers have acute sense of smell… I have read somewhere that they can smell human sweat up to a kilometer. Dunno if it’s true though… But I guess that would explain why they would follow someone with food… ;) It’s okay Kikit, I appreciate your visits…

oh my! The birds are so beautiful. I’ve never seen colors like that. Thank you so much for posting them. Also thanks for the white deer. It looks like something out of mythology.

Thank you Caroline. About the white deer, I have never thought about them like that before… Thanks for this new perspective… ;)
