Back to the River

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
- Psalm 23:1,2

We come and go just like ripples in a stream.
- John V. Politis

Many a calm river begins as a turbulent waterfall, yet none hurtles and foams all the way to the sea.
- Mikhail Lermontov

Leisure is a form of silence, not noiselessness. It is the silence of contemplation such as occurs when we let our minds rest on a rosebud, a child at play, a Divine mystery, or a waterfall.
- Fulton J. Sheen

Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
- Luke 12:27

Gorgeous flowerets in the sunlight shining,
Blossoms flaunting in the eye of day,
Tremulous leaves, with soft and silver lining,
Buds that open only to decay…
- Flowers, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

The artist is the confidant of nature, flowers carry on dialogues with him through the graceful bending of their stems and the harmoniously tinted nuances of their blossoms, every flower has a cordial word which nature directs towards him.
- Auguste Rodin

All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small,
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all.

- All Things Bright and Beautiful, Cecil F. Alexander

Love has its own instinct, finding the way to the heart, as the feeblest insect finds the way to its flower, with a will which nothing can dismay nor turn aside.
- Honore De Balzac

Nature will bear the closest inspection. She invites us to lay our eye level with her smallest leaf, and take an insect view of its plain.
- Henry David Thoreau

Men are like trees: each one must put forth the leaf that is created in him.
- Henry Ward Beecher

However far the stream flows, it never forgets its source.
- Nigerian Proverb

It has been quite some time since we have done some river trekking, thus the title. Featured here are some creatures and scenes from the nooks and crannies of Inghoy (ing-hoy) River in the municipality of Alegria, Cebu… This was a short trek, as this served as an ocular inspection. You’ll see more of this river’s beauty in a few weeks – we will be exploring it further upstream where three waterfalls await…

    God bless you, Mark!

Salamat sa blessing kapatid… :) Yung “puting seda” effect, gumamit ako ng polarizing filter to minimize reflection.

wow, am speechless Mark, all the photos are just wonderful. i am still trying my “best-est” to have a picture like yours for river and streams, but so far, i have not been successful yet. but at least, i have your pictures to inspire me that i can do it one day, hehehe. i love river trekking.

Thanks Miss Beth… :) I actually bought a polarizing filter around two years ago… It minimizes the reflections in the water and helps to achieve the “smoothening” effect… Kaya mo na Miss Beth! :)

Looks like those ocular inspections always end up as some Sheenian leisures. Remind me of one of my bookmarked Joey A.’s lines: “Ang buhay ko ay isang ilog, umaagos tungo sa laot. Sa pagdaloy ay lumiliko-liko, ngunit dagat pa rin ang inaabot.” Happy, leisurely weekend kapatid…

Salamat kapatid… :) Ocular, kasi babalikan pa namin ito, pero kahit ocular lang, enjoy pa rin… Tama kapatid, we are all called to a happy ending in life…

Salamat Sandi… I would say that this post is really a trademark for my blog theme: nooks and crannies… I am happy na through this post, nature is more appreciated… :)

Oh my gulay! Ang ganda lalo na yung 2 and 4. Ang galing ng effects sa water! Shutter po ba ni-adjust nyo dun? Oh my! Gusto ko matutunan yan. T_T

Salamat Milay! Sa shots 2 and 4, I used a polarizing filter to minimize reflection, in effect bumagal ang shutter speed so naging very smooth ang tubig.. . :) Without the polarizing filter, the same effect could be achieved by increasing the shutter speed or by reducing the aperture… :)

Wow, CoolWaterWorks, these are so delightful. The dragonflies and flowers make me feel humble. The waterfalls make me feel hopeful. I love the way you bring a loving focus to nature.

I’m going out for a walk now near one of our big lakes, but there are cars everywhere, so it’s not anything like what you have in front of your eyes. Thanks for the photos…

Thanks for visiting Caroline…. This place is actually quite far from the city and the travel is very tiring… But beautiful places like this are always worth exploring… :)

  21. April 5, 2009 at 12:26 pm

na-miss ko tuloy ang childhood ko sa post na ‘to. the dragonflies. hay.

Oo, nostalgic nga ang dating ng dragonflies… Salamat sa pagbisita Red… :)
