For the Coffee Table Book – Issue #2

Planting (rice) is never fun,
Back’s bent from dawn ’till set of sun.
Cannot sit and cannot stand – bending all day is never fun…

Just a loose translation of the first stanza of the song Magtanim ay Di Biro.

After all the hardships of planting rice, the farmer is supposedly rewarded by a bountiful harvest – and rest…

For the second picture in this series, here’s a rice farmer resting after a harvest.

I’m speaking from experience… :)

    Guess what?
I literally sang the song while my brain was doing an automatic and simultaneous translation into Tagalog. Whew!

Seriously, this brings to mind the memory of my beloved Lolo Using (i.e. Jose). He was a great farmer. Incidentally, the first syllable of my name was derived from the 1st syllable of his name, JO-se. Wala lang… nai-share lang.

Ang tagal kong hindi nakatambay dito kapatid.
It’s good to be back. God bless!

    Gosh, may utang pa pala ako sa ‘yong e-mail reply! {tago tago}

Pareho kayo ni Tokayo Flamindevil… hehehe… Salamat sa pagdaan kapatid… Hopefully okay ang results ng exams mo… At tungkol dun sa email, okay lang kapatid, take your time, no pressure… :)

Kapatid!

    eto ung link nya:

    http://allansabado.wordpress.com/

    nagsisimula palang sya.

    Thank u.

    Great photos again!

Sige kapatid, I’ll visit his site… Kasi “It’s not on what you have but on how you use it.”

Your shot caught my attention. Very tranquil yung subject mo, i love it!.

Mark, thank you for the kind words you have left at my blog.

Nostalgic. I have the utmost respect for farmers. I am a proud granddaughter of a farmer. Palagi ko nga sinasabi, theirs are the hands that feed the nation.

    God bless, kapatid!

You are welcome kapatid at salamat din sa pagdalaw dito… Tama ka, farmers feed the nation. And I am a proud grandson of a farmer too… :)

A man of great faith….the farmer. He does the back-aching task of planting rice, with faith that he’ll later be harvesting palay and earning money to provide his family’s needs and invest on his kids’ future, despite typhoon threats and all.

    Kadalom gid…

On the lighter side…in Ai-Ai’s words,
“Ako ang nagtanim, iba ang nag-ani, kasi diet ako.” :-)

You’re a great artist, Marky, keep it up!

Haha! May Ai-ai quotable quotes pa gid ya! Yes, a farmer is indeed an investor in faith! Thanks for visiting… I’m flattered that you like my pics; coming from an artist like you, it’s an honor… :)

Huhu.. Sunog kung sunog ang balat. All of that for the price of very little pero stay pa rin sila sa work nila. Dedicated talaga.

Tama ka Milay… Knowing the hardship that farmers undergo leads us to treasure and to be grateful for the food on our tables… And I always pray that the Lord may bless the hands that labored to prepare the food I eat… :)

Strange…..even though the rice has been planted already and the harvest is in, his back is still bent even in relaxation.

    nice picture.

Good observation Scottie…I must admit I did not notice that… :) Thanks for visiting!

dapat ngang pahalagahan natin ang bawat butil ng palay dahil ito ay katumbas ng dugo’t pawis ng mga magsasaka. and we should be proud of our farmers.

    Amen Er!
